Description From Herbal Descriptions by Truman Berst: #3122 ELECAMPANE (Inula helenium) Today used primarily for respiratory ailments such as coughs, asthma and bronchitis; used with Echinacea for tuberculosis and whooping cough. Its bitter tonic properties stimulate a weak digestive system and help to balance a disordered digestion. Also, it increases the flow of bile. Elecampane promotes the menstrual flow and is beneficial for anemia. It may be used for kidney and bladder infections. Externally, this plant has long been used for the treatment of scabies, herpes and other skin diseases, from which it received its common name of Scabwort.
