L-Arginine/L-Ornithine Powder
150 gm powder, #038, $28.95
L-arginine is an essential amino acid that has been show to lower blood pressure, treat Hypertension and promote wound healing. Athletes have also found L-Arginine to be beneficial for muscle recovery and Growth Hormone Release.L-ornithine may be used as an alternative since it metabolizes to L-arginine in the body. If taken in doses larger that those normally obtained from your diet or if taken on an empty stomach, these amino acids may be helpful for: Hypertension:
L-arginine is required for the body to synthesize nitric oxide, which
enables the arterial system to retain its youthful elasticity, thus alleviating
hypertension in some people. Nitric oxide also helps to produce endothelial
relaxation factor, which is needed by the arterial system to expand and
contract with each heartbeat. The inability of arteries to expand and
contract is a major cause of hypertension associated with aging. If you
decide to try L-arginine to lower blood pressure, ask your physician to
reduce your antihypertensive medication while you are increasing your
intake of arginine. The suggested dose of L-arginine as a blood pressure
lowering agent is 4500 mg three times daily. For some people, L-arginine
does not lower blood pressure, so its crucial that your blood pressure
be monitored to ensure that it is under Growth Hormone: L-arginine and L-ornithine have been shown to promote natural growth hormone (GH) release from the pituitary gland. GH promotes healthy anabolic metabolism throughout the body, helping to maintain youthful protein synthesis within cells. Aging causes a decline in protein synthesis that results in many of the degenerative diseases of aging, which may be partially corrected by enhancing GH serum levels. You can measure the GH enhancing effects of L-arginine/L-ornithine by measuring your blood levels of somatomedin C (IGF-1), a GH metabolite. L-ornithine is generally considered to be twice as potent as L-arginine for the purpose of GH release, so L-ornithine alone or in combination with L-arginine enables a person to take a smaller amount and still achieve the same GH releasing effects. Wound Healing: Surgical or traumatic injury greatly increases the bodys need for L-arginine, a key building block to repair damaged tissue and bone. Numerous studies document enhanced wound healing in response to L-arginine supplementation. L-ornithine may also be used for this purpose. 1 bottle contains: 1 packed level
teaspoon (3 grams) contains:
Dosage and use: L-arginine and L-ornithine
are most effectively utilized when taken on an empty stomach with water
or juice. For growth hormone release, 6-12 grams of pure L-arginine or
half as much pure L-ornithine or a proportional combination of both are
suggested for healthy male adults before exercise or sleep depending on
the weight and response of the individual. For healthy female nonpregnant,
nonlactating adults, half that amount is suggested. For more details on
GH releaser suggestions by weight and sex, see the Durk & Sandy Products,
and the Growth Hormone Releasing Formulas sections of this Directory.
-L-arginine free base
powder can be mixed with water or juice, however it is alkaline and some
people find that mixing ascorbic acid with it produces a more pH neutral
and palatable drink. The HCL product naturally produces a pH neutral and
more palatable drink when mixed with water or juice. - Start with about 25% of your target quantity and increase it gradually over a period of a few days to minimize the occurrence of minor side effects such as nausea. GH release is improved if 1-3 grams of choline and 1/2-2 grams of pantothenic acid are taken at the same time as amino acid releasers. The product, Choline Chloride Liquid, described in the Brain Anti-Aging section of this Directory contains both choline and pantothenic acid and is appropriate for this purpose. Caution:
- Persons who have
not completed their bone growth (children and teenagers) and pregnant
or lactating Women should not use GH releasers except under a physicians
supervision. - L-arginine and L-ornithine
sometimes reactivate latent herpes virus infections. Therefore, persons
who have had ocular or brain herpes should not use them. - Those with certain
psychoses may experience worsened symptoms if they take L-arginine or
L-ornithine supplements. - Always take antioxidants
with arginine. - Higher amounts can be taken if recommended by a knowledgeable healthcare provider.
