The Omron HEM-629 is compact and easy-to-use at home, at work, and during travel. Perfect for people who frequently monitor their own blood pressure.

Omron digital blood pressure monitors use the oscillometric method of blood pressure measurement. This means the monitor detects your blood's movement through your artery and converts the movements
into a digital reading. An oscillometric monitor does not need a
stethoscope so the monitor is simple to use.

Clinical research has proven a direct relationship between blood
pressure in the wrist and blood pressure in the arm. Changes in wrist blood pressure reflect changes in arm blood pressure because the arteries in the wrist and the arm are close to each other. Frequently measuring the blood pressure in your wrist will provide your physician with an accurate indication of changes in your blood pressure.

Only Omron Wrist Blood Pressure Monitors with A.P.S.™ have a unique positioning sensor that automatically confirms the cuff is level with the user’s heart. This helps ensure that each and every reading is accurate.

Independently Validated for Proven Accuracy The most important feature of Omron blood pressure monitors is that they consistently provide accurate results. This is why every Omron blood pressure model has been tested, evaluated and proven to meet the rigorous safety and accuracy standards set by independent organizations.

What Is Blood Pressure?

In a the most basic sense, blood pressure is a way of measuring how much force is being exerted on the walls of your blood vessels (artery) as blood flows through them. Systolic is the pressure exerted as your heart contracts or beats. This is measured as your heart sends a surge of blood through the vessels. A reading of less than 120 mm Hg is considered normal. Diastolic is the pressure exerted when your heart relaxes in between heartbeats in the arteries. A reading of less than 80 mm Hg is considered normal. For adults, HIGH blood pressure or hypertension is defined as a blood pressure greater than or equal to 140 mm Hg / 90 mm Hg.

Blood Pressure Category Systolic (mm Hg) Diastolic (mm Hg)
Normal less than 120 and less than 80
Prehypertension 120–139 or 80–89
High Blood Pressure Stage 1 140–159 or 90–99
High Blood Pressure Stage 2 160 or higher or 100 or higher

Importance of Home Blood Pressure Monitoring

Doctors, diabetes educators, physician assistants, nurses, the American Heart Association and other healthcare professionals recommend home blood pressure monitoring for various reasons, including the ability to provide them with better information to understand and manage your high blood pressure.

  • Many types of hypertension can only be detected with home blood pressure monitoring, including:
  • White-coat Hypertension: blood pressure readings are higher at the doctors office than when taken from home
  • Masked Hypertension: blood pressure readings are lower at the doctor's office than when taken from home
  • Morning Hypertension: blood pressure readings are higher when taken in the morning

Additionally, many factors can affect your blood pressure, including physical exertion, emotional fluctuations, diet, medications and stress, so having your blood pressure monitored at a Pharmacy with an in-store device after you have been shopping or walking around might not provide you with an accurate measurement.

Monitoring your blood pressure at home allows you to more easily measure in a relaxed state and gives you the flexibility to take your measurements at various times during the day. By keeping track of your home blood pressure readings, you can provide your healthcare professional with a log of your blood pressure measurements over time, which can help them evaluate the effectiveness or need for medication.

A.P.S.

The main source of error with the wrist monitors is that the monitor has to be at the level of the heart when a reading is taken. Omron’s Patent A.P.S. (Advanced Positioning Sensor) technology solves this potential error or problem. The Omron Wrist Monitor with A.P.S. will not take a blood pressure reading until the monitor is at heart height. The product guides the user with arrows, instructing the user to either lower or elevate the monitor until it’s in the proper position. The monitor’s LCD will indicate to the user that the monitor is at the proper height and then the blood pressure monitor begins to inflate and take a reading.

Do You Know Your Cuff Size?

An essential part of getting an accurate blood pressure reading is using the correct size arm cuff. Make certain that the cuff fits snugly around your arm. The cuff should make good contact with your skin and you should be able to fit one finger between the cuff and your arm.

Omron blood pressure cuffs are clearly marked for ease of use…the edge of the cuff should be located approximately ½” above the elbow and the green marker on the cuff is located above the brachial artery on the inside of the arm.

The majority of Omron’s blood pressure monitors come with a standard size cuff that fits arms 9”-13” in circumference. With these models, both small cuffs, fitting size 7”-9” arms, and large cuffs, size 14”-17”, are available. With certain models, such as the HEM-780, HEM-773 and HEM-712CLC, the cuffs that come with the products will fit larger size arms.

What is IntelliSense®?

The IntelliSense® Monitor inflates the cuff to the ideal level with each use. No adjustments are required by the user to select an inflation level. This is especially convenient for hypertensive users and for people with certain arrhythmia or heart disorders, because their blood pressure is likely to fluctuate. The advantage is Personalized Inflation for maximum comfort.
