Capsules Provide:
Zinc (aspartate) ............................................................25
MG
Zinc potentiates the effect of vitamin A in restoring night vision
Lutein ..........................................................................20
MG
Lutein is a phytochemical that protects against wet macular degeneration.
Lutein is a pigment found in dark green leafy vegetables, including
spinach, kale, broccoli, and collard greens. Zeaxanthin is found in
fruits and vegetables with yellow hues such as corn, peaches, persimmons,
and mangoes. Lutein is present in the retina and positively effects
macular pigment density. The denser the pigment, the less likely a retinal
tear or degeneration will occur. Improvement has been seen in some test
subjects after only one month's consumption.
Bilberry
(20% extract) ...............................................80 MG
Dry macular degeneration and other age-related eye diseases are often
caused by a breakdown of the circulatory system of the eye. Bilberry
extracts have been shown to improve microcapillary circulation throughout
the body.
Vitamin
A (beta-carotene) ...................................25,000
IU
Considering ocular health, the eyes are obvious indicators of a vitamin
A deficiency, often showing symptoms of dry, itchy, or inflamed eyeballs
and night blindness. Vitamin A appears to counteract weak eyesight by
encouraging the formation of rhodopsin or visual purple, a pigmented
compound in the rods of the retina that adapts the eye to low-density
light.
Long known to be essential for proper eye development, vitamin A continues
to be important for the health of the eyes throughout the human life
span, particularly the retina. Higher dietary intake of vitamin A has
been found to decrease cataract risk Antioxidants work cooperatively,
regenerating one another as they are oxidized themselves in the process
of buffering free radicals.37 Vitamin A has been used as a topical agent
to treat contact lens problems and external eye disorders for some years
now.
Grape
Seed (95% extract) 100 MG
Thought to be one of the most powerful antioxidants available. Grape
Seed Extract is renowned for its benefits as a free-radicals scavenger
in the body.
Quercetin
................................................................100
MG
Quercetin is the active flavonol part of rutin. It also is used as a
capillary protectant and is a more powerful antioxidant than rutin.
Tuarine
...................................................................400
MG
High concentrations of taurine are needed within the eye to maintain
optimal function and structure. It has been found to protect the lens
against free radical damage.27,28 In a series of studies performed by
researchers at the University of Maryland,27 rat lenses were cultured
with a potent oxidant called menadione. The addition of physiological
amounts of taurine-enough to create a concentration roughly equivalent
to that which would exist in healthy lenses-attenuated the harmful effects
of the oxidant. Another study found that the lenses of diabetic rats
were protected against cataract by physiological levels of taurine.29
N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine
..............................................200 MG
N-acetyl-cysteine is the acetylated form of L-cysteine which is more
efficiently absorbed and used. It is also an antioxidant that is helpful
against viruses. N-acetyl-cysteine has been used as a liver protectant
and to break up pulmonary and bronchial mucus. N-acetyl-cysteine can
boost glutathione levels in cells.
Lycopene
...................................................................3
MG
Mixtures of carotenoids are more effective than the single compounds.
This synergistic effect is most pronounced when lycopene or lutein are
present. The superior protection of mixtures might be related to specific
positioning of different carotenoids in cell membranes because cell
membranes have both a fat and water layer.
Other ingredients:
gelatin, magnesium stearate and stearic acid
